How can we help?

On a computer, point at the gap between two squares until a wall appears, then click. On a phone or tablet, drag a wall from the tray under the board, or tap a tray piece and then a spot. With a keyboard, press W, use the arrow keys, press R to turn the wall and Enter to place it. The how to play page has a board you can try.

It either overlaps or crosses a wall already on the board, or it would shut a pawn in. Every pawn must always keep a way to its goal row.

Yes, against the Easy computer: press Undo. You can’t take back moves against the harder computers, in online games or in friend rooms.

In the game panel (beside the board on a computer, above it on a phone), choose vs Computer, pick Easy, Normal, Hard or Nightmare, then press Start game. If a game is under way, you are asked first. See how each level plays.

Yes. Press the gear (⚙) at the top of the game panel and pick Walnut, Felt, Royal or Onyx. On a phone the gear appears once you choose a way to play, and in the panel under the board during a game. When you’re signed in you can also set your favourite in Settings.

No. You can play the computer, a friend or one device without signing up. An account saves your name, rating and game history.

Choose Sign in, then Create account. Enter a player name, your email address and a password. We send you a link to confirm your address; confirm it, then log in.

Check your spam folder first, and make sure you typed your address correctly. If it still hasn’t arrived, write to us with the form below.

Go to Sign in, choose Forgot password, and enter your email address. If it has an account, we’ll send a link to choose a new one.

Open Settings when you’re signed in.

Use the delete your account page. We email you a link to confirm before anything is deleted.

In the game panel choose Play with a friend, then Create a room. Send your friend the link, show the QR code, or read out the six-character code. For up to three friends, switch to 4 players first. See playing with friends.

A room closes after three minutes if the game hasn’t started (a two-player game starts when your friend joins; in a four-player room you press Start game). Create a new room and send the link again, and check the code is six characters (0–9 and A–F). A four-player room takes four people at most.

You have 30 seconds to come back. After that, the game counts as a forfeit.
